Summary:
Stay away from the light-beds. Stay in the deep.
It is the first thing hatchlings are taught the moment their fans unfurl and they can swim without their parents to buoy them along. It is the first rule, the first law. It is the beginning of every boogey-monster bedtime story told when they settle against the cliffs to sleep.
Castiel should have listened better.
Why you should read this:
The premise may be total crack, but the story itself is one of the finest AUs I’ve ever read. It is mostly from Castiel’s POV as a merman living a life a relative peace. But that peace is shattered when he ventures out past the safety of his home territory into the areas controlled by humans. What happens to him will change not only his life but the lives of those he meets forever.
