Whether you’re dying a slow, cold death in space, or a long painful one on some godforsaken planet, they’re going to come for you. So count your last breaths, son, and hold on tight. They leave no soul behind.

Why You Should Read This: This fic is epic. One year after Vulcan is destroyed, Spock is a member of the Emegency Personnel Ambulance Service. These people are badass; they’re the ones who  who risk their lives to bring Starfleet personnel home, heading into extremely dangerous situations. It’s not a job for the faint of heart.  After being absolutely done with the Command track, Jim is transferred to the EPAS. This fic is incredibly well-written and amazingly plotted. This is the type of fic a reader can disappear into. The characters seem like themselves, and the relationship that forms between Jim and Spock is believable and wonderful. If you’re going to read a Kirk/Spock fic, it should be this one.

  2. Okay, I am less than half way through this and holy shit!!! This is a fantastic story. I am breathless here.

  3. I’ve read this story at least three times, and each time, it’s just as compelling and brilliant.

  4. Finally finished it. I don’t even know what to say. Magnificent? Overwhelming? Beautiful? Stunning? Amazing? You MUST read this.

  5. Without a doubt, LNSB is one of the best BOOKS I’ve ever read — in any genre — at any time. Whochick is an amazingly talented writer and storyteller, and her understanding of the Star Trek universes is deep. She’s thought a lot about Vulcan psychology and Spock’s issues in particular, so the slash is not cheesy or porny — it’s totally respectful to K/S but still intense, romantic and hot. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that LNSB is just slash. It’s an epic (259,000 words!). Politics, intrigue and warfare are front and center, with the K/S relationship woven in seamlessly. If you’re familiar with the Star Trek canons, your mind will be blown by the milieu she creates. There aren’t words to explain how good this fic is. You just have to read it. Warning: be prepared for it to wreck your schedule, because you won’t be able to stop!
