The State of Being Away by DeputyChairman

Title: The State of Being Away
Author: DeputyChairman
Fandom: due South
Pairing(s): Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Genres: Angst, Established Relationship
Word Count: 7,980

Summary: Ray’s clothes were scattered all over Fraser’s bedroom, and together they’d pretty much wrecked Fraser’s bed. When he got back from the airport, Fraser would probably change the sheets and pick up all the clothes that were his and then there wouldn’t be any sign that Ray had ever been there at all.

Why You Should Read This: This story, told from Ray Kowalski’s point of view, touches on some basic human emotions that exists within us all. Ray goes back to Chicago after CotW, after he and Fraser start having sex, and the angst that DeputyChairman taps into is that little bit of insecurity that some of us feel from time to time, about love, about life, is so tangible that you can’t help but go through the same emotional rollercoaster. Ray in Chicago is a shell of the man that he is when he’s with Fraser in the NWT’s. And what’s worse, the feeling he has – what DeputyChairman gives us through incredible emotive visualizations – about being in love with Fraser, while he thinks Fraser doesn’t feel the same way, tugs at your soul. But when they get together, and Ray manages to get his head straight, it’s just perfect.

Though I’m new to the due South fandom, I have been searching for the fic that would put me through the wringer emotionally, but yet have a happy, hopeful ever after. And this one fits the bill nicely.
