Torchwood has to deal with many things that some find bizarre: People with “angels” in their bloodlines, friends that turn out to be Tylwyth Teg (Celtic fairies, not to be confused with the kind that Torchwood has run into in the past), and even a visit to the US does not end the weirdness. Remember Silurians? Yeah, them too.
This series is a lot of fun and is full of unusual pairings, though most of those are het. The primary pairing is Jack/Ianto. There is also Jethro Gibbs/Tim McGee and later Jethro Gibbs/Tim McGee/Abby Sciuto.
Part of the fun is watching the author get better and better as she goes through the stories.
