Why you should read this:
Because this story transcends genre. Even if you aren’t a fan of slash fic or a McShep reader– you should read this story. It is devastatingly beautiful in every way. It tore out my heart and left me so hurt that I had to read it again. As far as I’m concerned this is the best piece of fiction in the Fandom.
I always hate the deadfics but this one is amazing, it’s break my heart in thousand pieces.
But I read it once not two, too much upsetting for me.
***spoiler alert** pls read the story first.

*oh, yes. i completely agree with you about this story. it was more than just a fanfic. deep emotions. no trite ending. kind of like real lifea nd what happens after the ‘the end’ at the back of the book. i remember reading it the first time, hoping so much that he would appear and all would be well, and then when you slowly realize its not happening, i could empathize with Rodney’s desolation.
i wondered what mischief Rodney inspired his students into. (rage against the MAN?). ive read it 2x, and saw so much more the second time. guess i will be reading it again on Monday, my day off.
good memory though of Rodney just bringing out a huge stash of already written science papers to send off to amaze and astound. i kind of pictured him sitting amongst the piles and sifting thru them muttering, ‘hmm, this one? then they would know just what a moron that guy’s idea was. or this one? that will lay to rest that absurd theory. or maybe this one? and he thought he was the pre-eminent scientist in this field.Hah!”
Yeah, I completly agree with you: best piece of fiction in the Fandom.
Thanks for advising me of this story.
This was heartwrenching and so very lovley – I cried. Amazing rec. This is my “go to” when I need a tearjerker.
This! This is the story I come back to and re-read again and again.
It’s beautiful and haunting.
Rodney – matured, damaged, but still very much Rodney.
The language is gorgeous.
The writing is so tight.
I always cry and never at the parts I expect to.
It is a fic with loss, but it is muted by time and told in a way that is subtle and true and without melodrama.
If I could, I would re-rec this fic once a year just to make sure people new to the fandom come across it.
Thanks for reccing this, hadn’t seen it before for one reason or another, feels like I’m going to be sporadically crying with these feels for the rest of the day – in the good way, of course.
