Dean asks his friend Cas to come with him to Sam’s wedding. Dean doesn’t want to go because after years of trying to save Sam from his addictions he gave up and ran and hasn’t seen Sam in years.
Why You Should Read This:
This is an excellent little piece of AU drama, with two elements: Dean being certain that he cannot possibly bear Sam dropping off the wagon again, which he is certain will happen, and his growing love for Cas. Nothing supernatural happens at all. All the horror and fear and such is perfectly natural.
There is a hell of a lot of anger and sorrow and guilt and a hundred other unhappy emotions involved in this. There is a desperate attempt to stomp out the hope. But there is also the joy of discovering that the crush you’ve had for a long time is reciprocated. And hope survives the stomping.
This is a great story. Which comes as no surprise. I mean, look who wrote it.
