The basic premise – Kate burning down the Hale house – happens, but in New York state, not in Beacon Hills. And a rogue Alpha that was not Peter bites Scott, Erica and Boyd as teenagers.
Derek escapes from being Kate’s Argent’s slave to run with Laura – who is killed before the story starts. He runs long and far, stumbling into traffic and ending up in Beacon Hills — in the care of Dr. Scott McCall and under the watchful eyes of Sheriff Stiles Stillinski.
This is a long and satisfying story… Stiles is very aware that Derek is only a hair from being feral and works (mostly, this is Stiles) patiently as Derek learns how to be himself, and to trust, again.
