Summary: Another way the Baron rose to power. Another way the wizard became a Knight. This is what happens when you take your lessons in heroism from Machiavelli and Vetinari.

Why You Should Read This:
Because this is the Dresden Files fic, in my opinion. What would have happened if Harry had accepted Marcone’s offer to work for him? How would that have changed events in the books? Lucia has an amazing grasp on the characters. Marcone is sly, calculating, but completely accepting of Harry and his personality. Harry is as he always is – protective of his city, powerful, reckless. Marcone wants a partnership, he doesn’t want to squash Harry, and he’s willing to wait for what he wants. This fic covers a lot of ground – both in terms of going over the first few books and Harry and John’s relationship. Harry believes himself straight, and John is willing to change his mind centimeter by agonizing centimeter. Believable, plotty, gradual, wonderful.

  1. Another Fan!!!!!

    LOL.

This was on my list of things I must read at the first opportunity, but after this it’s going to the top of the list.

  2. Hi,

I just started reading the books and I’m really enjoying them! I’m on the second one now. I’m looking forward to reading this. Can I ask how many of the books this story covers? Would I be spoiled if I read it? Thanks

    • It’s been awhile since I’ve read the series, so I’m not sure I can give you an exact number – but I do know that it diverges from book two, Fool Moon – so at the very least, it has spoilers for the first two books. I’ll have to re-read the fic and give you a more definitive answer, I think, which is no hardship 😀

      Sorry!
