Summary: When Steve gets injured on a case, his memory gets a little muddled. When he slips-up will it ruin things forever, or will he finally get everything he’s been wishing for?

Why You Should Read This: I’m not afraid to say that this story held such an emotional punch for me, that I couldn’t help but start crying when I read it. But it’s not a sad story, even though it has to do with loss. (Note: It’s not the type of loss you can explain without giving away the entire plot. But suffice to say it’s handled beautifully.) The overall feeling of hope, caution, and love shine through this and leaves the reader with an overwhelming feeling of happiness.

But beyond the story itself, the characterizations are so spot on that it’s like this was a scene from the show. And Steve is so perfect, that you can’t help but feel for him, going through each emotion as Steve experiences it.

This story was written for Winter in Hawaii, which had some really good submissions, but this one is the absolute best.
