Summary: “Oh come, John. Could be fun,” Mycroft taunts, accompanied by an eyebrow arch he’s gotten far too good at. “Besides, it’s not as if it’s your first time pretending to be a couple.”

Five months after John’s world has fallen apart, Mycroft sends the consulting detective and his doctor on a case that neither is prepared for.

Why You Should Read This: I started this fic on a whim after I found out that it has some of my favorite tropes – kidfic, fake/pretend relationships, and first time. But this fic is so much more than the tropes it holds. Sherlock is, to turn a phrase, perfectly broken. And John is so, so wonderfully himself that you just want to wrap him up and hold him. Not to mention Mycroft; I have never read a fic with Mycroft as perfect as he’s depicted in this fic.

There’s a case dangled in front of John and Sherlock where they have to go undercover as a couple, with a child. Mycroft is slightly manipulative (only in a good way) but you can barely see it. But the choices laid out at the beginning of the story play right into John and Sherlock’s personalities, and the decisions made affect the rest of their lives.

My first instinct with this fic was to immediately re-read it again. I held off, but that won’t last for long.
